Who is the Academy of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry?
The Academy of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry is an International Association of General and Restorative Dentists, Endodontists, Periodontists, Prosthodontists, Oral Surgeons and associated disciplines. AMED has worked to encourage, inspire, and educate the dental profession and the public by being a source of scientific, evidence-based information and advocating the advantages of the operating stereomicroscope.
All disciplines of dentistry benefit from the use of the microscope. AMED is an arch that connects all of the specialties. Since 2001, world leaders covering the latest techniques from implant surgery to direct composite restorations have shared their knowledge with AMED members.

“The AMED meeting in 2001 was wonderful. I got to find out that there were other nuts just like me!! All very passionate and very committed to using a surgical microscope for treatment. It was at this meeting that I met Glenn van As and from there a lifelong bond began. He was and is a wonderful person and great teacher. A fascinating thing was to see how both of us had gravitated to the exact same delivery system without ever talking to one another. It was the best for the surgical micro-scope at the time. We have since changed our systems slightly, but continue to work towards the goal of better ergonomics and enhanced vision that comes with a surgical microscope. I have been very privileged to teach with Glenn and others in many countries over almost 20 years. My time with AMED has led me to contacts with the very best of the best. And some of these best dentists were our students! They have since become the teachers of others and leaders in our field. Jorge Zapata, Roy Smith, David Clark, Terry Pannkuk, John Khademi, Adriana MacGregor, Dennis Shanelec, Jeff Hamilton, Jill Hansen, Eric Herbranson and many others have crossed my path over the years with AMED and I am proud to count them among my friends and colleagues. Hopefully, my career can continue with much more teaching with AMED. I will be honored to usher in the next era of superb dentists!”

"I started to use the microscope in 2005. In 2006, I attended my first AMED meeting without knowing anyone. After going to that meeting, I was inspired to become a member because of the passion for excellence evident amongst the members and because of the extraordinary outreach of both Drs. Wayne Remington and Glenn van As. Both of these doctors went out of their way to share their knowledge, insight and love for the microscope and dentistry. "

"In 2002, my clinical practice was forever changed when I was introduced to the clinical microscope by Drs. Cherilyn Sheets, Jacinthe Paquette, and Gary Carr. It was immediately clear that high powered magnification and unsurpassed illumination was the optimal way to perform precision dentistry. I believe the ergonomic benefits of the clinical microscope will increase the longevity of my practice. My membership in the Academy of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry (AMED) has inspired me to continue my pursuit of quality dentistry, and learn from other clinicians who are also passionate about excellence!"

“My dental practice is an after and before becoming an AMED member, the learning, technique and excellence I have experienced is true all these years, the interactions with the best in microdentistry and the fabulous annual meeting, have been a wonderful journey for my personal and professional growth. My health because of ergonomics, the excellence in the quality of my job, and the patients satisfaction is huge with the correct use of the microscope, thats the big difference. I think that if this academy changed my life, I’m sure it will change other professional lives too.”
