This webinar explores the increasing clinical recognition of cracked teeth and why early identification and proactive intervention are critical to preserving tooth structure and avoiding endodontic complications. Attendees will examine the progression from craze lines and microfractures to symptomatic cracks, understand the role of occlusal forces and aging restorations, and learn how timely diagnosis and patient communication can significantly alter treatment outcomes. Emphasis will be placed on comprehensive evaluation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and preventive strategies that empower clinicians and hygiene teams to address cracks before they become untreatable.
Course Outline:
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Recognize early clinical signs of craze lines, microfractures, and cracked teeth
- Understand the role of occlusion and existing restorations in crack progressions
- Apply appropriate diagnostic tools to accurately assess cracked teeth
- Communicate preventive and early treatment options to patients before symptoms develop
- Identify when intervention can prevent endodontic involvement and tooth loss
COURSE INSTRUCTORS:
After many positive experiences at the dentist as a young child, Dr. McIntyre developed an interest to become a dentist. Originally from Los Angeles, she attended the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where she performed research on dental unit waterline biofilms. After graduation, Dr. McIntyre attended the Adams School of Dentistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for her endodontics residency. Alongside renowned researchers in the field of endodontics, traumatology, and pediatric dentistry, her thesis and research regarding traumatic dental injuries has been published in numerous professional journals. Dr. McIntyre has served on the MA Dental Society (MDS) as a Guest Board Member and is proud to have participated in the ADA Diversity in Leadership Institute as well as the MDS Leadership Institute. She has served on the AAE Board of Directors, and various AAE Committees while in private practice. She continues to share her passion for dentistry, trauma, radiology/imaging and endodontics through educational speaking engagements and social media.
