COURSE INSTRUCTORS:

Gabriel Flores Abuna, DDS, MSc, PhD

Dr. Abuna is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Operative Dentistry at Nova Southeastern University and an expert in microscopy-driven research and education. He earned his DDS from the Higher University of San Andres in Bolivia and completed his MSc and PhD in Biomaterials at the State University of Campinas in Brazil, followed by postdoctoral fellowships in Brazil, Japan, and the U.S. His work spans biomaterials, cariology, antibacterial materials, and immunology, with extensive experience in fluorescence, SEM, CLSM, and AFM techniques. Dr. Abuna has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and currently directs multiple operative dentistry courses while mentoring microscopy-centered research on resin interfaces, biofilms, and antifungal nanomaterials. He is fluent in Spanish, English, Portuguese, and French.
